摘要

This study focuses on examining the performance of hy2Foam solver developed in OpenFOAM framework by hyStrath group. The complexity of estimating aerothermodynamic properties, due to the presence of chemical and thermal non-equilibrium in hypersonic flows, is addressed in this study. The first case presented here is the case of Fourier flows which was previously validated by Vincent 2017. Thereafter, the hy2Foam solver is validated against cases not reported earlier. The case of low and high enthalpy hypersonic flows having experimental data has been chosen. Additionally, the solver is validated for a three-dimensional Lobb's sphere case, for which experimental data is available in the literature. We have shown that hy2Foam solver has shown a good performance against these test cases. Additionally, this work has shown the importance of reaction modelling, i.e., considering chemical non-equilibrium. Overall, this research contributes to a better understanding of the compressibility and rarefaction effects in hypersonic flows and validates the hy2Foam solver as a reliable tool for analysing such complex aerothermodynamic phenomena. The hy2Foam solver has shown to accurately predict hypersonic flows over two- and three-dimensional blunt bodies.
