The experimental investigations reviewed in this paper are related to developing understanding of the heat transfer characteristics of molten nitrate salt under forced convection conditions. These experiments cover laminar, transition and turbulent regimes. The review includes experimental studies which have investigated molten salt heat transfer in various class of heat exchangers like tube-in-tube, shell-and-tube, helical tube and printed circuit heat exchangers. Despite significant progress, certain areas warrant further research, like the influence of impurities and degradation products on heat transfer.
