摘要

Investigations have been carried out over decades to enhance the heat transfer by using various heat augmentation techniques like active, passive and compound. In present work passive heat transfer augmentation technique by using non-metallic flow divider type inserts is used along with air as a working fluid. Whenever inserts are used for heat transfer augmentation, it will increases heat transfer rate as well as pressure drop also. This increase in pressure drop results in increasing the pumping cost. Hence heat augmentation technique should optimize between the benefits of heat transfer rate and increased pressure drop. For validation of experimental setup, first experiment was carried out on a plain tube. Nusselt number and friction factor obtained from the results were validated against those obtained from empirical correlation. In second part of experimental investigations were carried out by using newly developed flow dividers of metallic and non-metallic type inserts of same geometry. Analysis is carried out with varying flow rate and heat input. The Nusselt number with insert element of aluminium is 2.11 times than that of Nusselt number without any insert. The Nusselt number with insert elements of acrylic is 1.394 times than that of Nusselt number without any insert has been observed.
