摘要

Numerical studies on heat transfer enhancement in rectangular microchannel with a cluster of dimples are presented. Proposed dimple cluster configurations enhance the flow mixing and the heat transfer with minimum pressure losses. Computational studies are performed on two dimple cluster configurations, one with the flow parallel to the major axis of secondary elongated dimples and the other with the flow perpendicular to the major axis. The numerical simulations are carried out for various laminar Reynolds numbers in the range of 100-500 and Prandtl number of 6.99 (water). Area goodness factor, which takes into account the heat transfer enhancement and pressure loss, is used to estimate the thermo-hydraulic performance in this study. The variation of Nusselt number and area goodness factor with Reynolds's numbers are also studied. Results show that the dimple cluster has a better area goodness factor when compared to a straight channel without dimples. Out of the two dimple cluster configurations the maximum overall performance is obtained when flow enters parallel to the major axis of secondary elongated dimples at lower Reynolds numbers.
