Abstract

The enhancement in heat transfer performance of a Solar Air Heater (SAH) can be achieved by introducing artificial roughness on the absorber surface. The effectiveness of heat transfer in the SAH duct depends on both the specific roughness geometry employed and its strategic positioning within the duct. For the present experimental study, a double-pass reverse flow solar air heater (RFSAH) was designed with Delta Wings (DW) and perforation on the absorber surface. The effectiveness of this RFSAH was tested at three attack angles (α = 15°,30°,45°) of DW under different ranges of Reynolds Number (4000 ≤ Re ≤ 20000). The thermal performance of the present RFSAH with delta wings and perforation on the absorber surface is higher as compared to the conventional SAH. According to the results, the absorber plate with the DW and perforation on the absorber offers the highest thermohydraulic parameter of about 2.96 and moderate friction factor enhancement of about 6.3 times at α = 45°.
