Abstract

In the present study, the experimental investigation aimed to examine the impact of neighboring urea-water-solution (UWS) droplets on the evaporation rate of a specific UWS droplet. Various configurations of suspended droplets were deliberately arranged to assess the relationship and dependency. To minimize conductive heat transfer from the wire, a wired grid constructed with Nichrome wire was employed for droplet suspension. Urea-water solutions with urea mass fractions of 32.5% and 50% were subjected to analysis in this study. The experimental setup consisted of a confined electric heater where the temperature was precisely controlled within the range of 150 °C to 400 °C, while efforts were made to minimize external air circulation. To determine the evaporation rate of the droplets, the droplet evolution over time was recorded and processed using in-house developed Matlab code. Furthermore, water droplets were included in each experimental condition to facilitate a comparative analysis of the obtained results. Throughout the temperature range, the evaporation of water droplets followed the expected behavior outlined by the D2 law. However, the evaporation of UWS droplets exhibited variations in different temperature ranges. The experimental results clearly demonstrated the influence of the number and proximity of neighboring droplets on the evaporation process.
