Abstract

This study presents a 2-D numerical analysis of wood volatile combustion in a double-layer porous radiant burner (PRB) at different equivalence ratios (ER) ranging from 0.75 to 0.9 and power input ranges from 1 kW − 3 kW. A finite volume technique is adopted to solve governing equations including; continuity, momentum, radiative transport equation, species transport equation, and gas and solid phases energy equations. The outcomes from the study revealed that the higher temperature is found in the central area of the burner and decreases in the radially outward direction. The temperature distribution along the longitudinal central line ruled out the possibility of flashbacks. Further, the radiation efficiency decreases with input power and increases with the ER. The maximum radiation efficiency of 36.71 % is reached at 1 kW and ER of 0.9, while the minimum of 25.96 % is reached at 3 kW and ER of 0.75.
