Abstract

Hybrid photovoltaic thermal solar collectors (HPVTC) are an excellent choice to harness both electrical and thermal energy from solar radiation. The heat transfer fluid (HTF) that circulates in this system serves as a coolant for the PV panels, while also absorbing heat and that heat could be used for other miscellaneous purposes. With the aid of ambient airflow and consideration of the thermal convection impact, this study has been carried out. This study is based on a numerical examination and intends to enhance the performance of a hybrid photovoltaic thermal collector (HPVTC). That is why the impacts of panel inclination angle (φ = 0 to 45°) and Reynolds number (Re = 10 to 500) have been investigated. The average photovoltaic (PV) temperature, outlet temperature, and thermal efficiencies are also being examined. Results show that for inclination angles of 22.5 and 45°, the overall thermal efficiency rises up to 90% for Re = 500. The results also indicate that Re = 100 provide the highest thermal efficiency ~ 169% at a zero inclination of the panel. The optimal value of Re is 200 since the thermal efficiency (~130%) is independent of any inclination angle.
