Abstract

Thermal comfort inside an automobile cabin was numerically studied by 3-dimensional simulations. Commercial solver ANSYS-Fluent 17.2 was used for the computations. Two ventilation techniques at various supply airflow rates have been compared for the transient cooling of the automobile cabin. The initial air temperature inside the cabin was set at 50°C and the total simulation time was 30 minutes. Air Diffusion Performance Index (ADPI) has been used to assess the acceptability of thermal environment for human occupancy inside the cabin. The ADPI was observed to improve with increase in supply airflow rate for both the ventilation techniques, due to increased probability of good ventilation air mixing.
