Abstract

Numerical simulations have been performed to study the thermo-hydraulic performance of Taylor-Couette flow through progressively varying phase shift wavy cylindrical annulus. The flow and heat transfer behaviour in progressively varying phase shift wavy annulus is compared with that observed in constant phase shift 0° phase shift, 90° phase shift, 180° phase shift wavy cylindrical annulus and smooth cylindrical annulus. The heat transfer performance is observed to be highly enhanced for 0° phase shift wavy annulus than all other configurations. The interaction between the vortex pairs in progressively varying phase shift wavy annulus is estimated by comparing that with the corresponding constant phase shift wavy annuli.
