Abstract

The high grade electrical energy or the gas fired systems are currently used as sources for the heat treatment of metals such as aluminum. To mitigate the emissions and to save fuel, solar energy is considered as a viable option. One such novel concept of solar convective furnace system is being developed for the heat treatment of aluminum. This paper presents the performed experiments using an integrated solar convective furnace system with two different strategies. Further, a one-dimensional mathematical model is developed for analyzing the heat transfer process in the convective furnace. The experimental data is used for validation of the same. The presented details will be helpful to implement such a solar convective furnace system at industrial scale.
