Abstract

In the present work, the fluid flow and thermal characteristics of turbulent oblique offset jet has been numerically investigated for an offset ratio 9 and Reynolds number 20000 using standard k-ε turbulence model. The heated wall is maintained at constant heat flux of 373 W/m2. Four different jet inclination angles i.e. ∅ = 90°, 75°, 60° and 45° have been considered for present numerical study. The effects of jet obliquity on various flow and heat transfer parameters such as streamlines, vortex center, reattachment length, U-velocity profile, skin friction coefficient, wall temperature and Nusselt number have been discussed. The analysis of numerical results reveal that the value of maximum U-velocity decreases with decrease in jet inclination angle approximately up to X < 5.37 in recirculation region and jet flow attains the characteristics of a generic wall jet in wall jet region for all the four jet inclination cases. Also, the higher heat transfer is achieved in recirculation region while it is lower in impingement and wall jet region for lower angle of jet inclination.
