Abstract

Numerical simulations have been performed on a Circumferential Arranged Fuel Port Inverse Jet Diffusion Flame with 32 fuel ports. Various flame characteristics such as flame shape and structure have been numerically investigated for wide range of fuel-air operating conditions. A steady laminar flamelet assumption with flame structure defined as function of mean mixture fraction and scalar dissipation rate are applied along with sufficiently fast chemistry. The experiments reveal that the detachment of the base flame from the burner rim is observed when fuel jet velocity is increased beyond a threshold limit for any fixed air jet Reynolds number. The reason for the detachment of the flame in inverse jet diffusion flame is an unexplored area of research. The wake dynamics and location of recirculation core governs the anchoring of base flame to the burner rim. Further, at high air jet velocity, faster fuel-air mixing with a shorter base flame height is observed due to larger air jet momentum.
