HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT DUE TO CURVED WINGLET PAIRS IN FIN-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS
Abstract
Three-dimensional numerical investigations have been carried out to study the influence of curved rectangular vortex
generators (CRVGs) on heat transfer enhancement in fin-tube
heat exchangers. Heat transfer and flow characteristics are
investigated for the fin-tube heat exchanger with CRVGs
mounted upstream of inline tubes using commercial software
ANSYS Fluent 17.2. The angular location of CRVGs has been
varied for fixed values of length and height of VGs, separation
between inline tubes and Reynolds number (Re). Flow and
heat transfer characteristics are examined with the help of
streamline plots and temperature contours. Enhancement in
heat transfer has been quantified using span-averaged and
overall Nusselt number while pressure drop is estimated in
terms of friction factor. Relationship between secondary flow
intensity and Nusselt number has been illustrated.
