Abstract

In this communication time dependent temperature of an internal heat source has been estimated by solving inverse heat transfer problems. The geometry has been described in a bipolar coordinate system instead of a rectangular on for convenience. Then the inverse problem has been converted into a minimisation problem and solved using modified Levenberg−Marquardt algorithm. The algorithm has been verified using simulated experiments. The forward model has been solved numerically and used for the inverse problem as well as for generating experimental measurements. It has been shown that the algorithm is sensitive to nature of change in the unknown parameter and the damping factor has a major role to control the deviation in the estimation as well as the time for convergence.
