Abstract

Radiative transfer equation in a one dimensional non-gray participating medium is solved using the finite volume based discrete ordinates method. Spectral models such as weighted sum of gray gases, spectral line weighted sum of gray gases, Leckner and Planck models are used in the present work. For each model, the effect of species mole fraction and wall emissivity in isothermal and non-isothermal medium, on radiative flux divergence variation is analyzed. For an emitting and absorbing medium, a new model has been proposed, in which absorption coefficient is modeled as a function of temperature. The model has been rigorously tested on various cases and compared with existing non-gray models. The results obtained are found to be accurate and computationally efficient.
