Abstract

Regenerative pump is rotodynamic turbomachine capable of developing high head at low flow rates. In this paper, an attempt has been made to use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software to simulate the flow within the regenerative pump and validate the CFD results with experimental data. CFD analysis of some geometrical modifications are done to investigating their effect on operating parameter of pump like head, power input and overall efficiency. Geometrical modifications are varying number of impeller blades, varying inclination angle of straight blades and varying chevron angles. From CFD Results of modified geometries it is observed that as number of blades increases head generated and power consumption by pump increases continuously. Modification with 42 blades have high total head at all flow rates, which is 6.54% higher than original model at design flow rate. forward and backward inclination angle blades have lower head and overall efficiency than original model for all flow rates. Forward chevron blades with 15° angle have maximum head for all flow rates, which are 3.58%, 13.78% and 7.05% higher than original model at low, design and high flow rate respectively. Backward chevron blades with all angle have lower head and efficiency than original model.
