Abstract

Single-phase natural circulation loops (NCLs) are frequently used as a passive heat transfer system in the field of production of nonconventional energies. In NCL, loop fluid extracts heat from a lower elevated heat source and ejects it to a higher elevated heat sink. Passive systems are more effective than active systems in terms of safety of the systems as well as reliability in transferring heat. For the low driving head, fluid flow inside the NCLs is less stable. This instability can cause deterioration of the performance of the entire system. In the present study, the effects of the inclination on heat transfer and loop fluid flow dynamics have been studied for a square single-phase NCL. Numerical simulations are carried out by MATLAB based Simulink model. The effects of various parameters like inclination angle, inclination direction and heater power on the flow dynamic stability were analyzed. From the results, it can be observed that with the increase in inclination angle flow dynamic stability and the heat transfer are also improved.
