Performance Assessment of Alkaline Water Electrolysis for Hydrogen Production
Abstract
This study provides a methodology for simulating the alkaline electrolyzer for hydrogen production. The objective is to broaden the range of operational parameters for enhancement
in hydrogen generation. Due to this aforementioned reason, for
the system modelling Aspen Plus has been utilized for its
immense potential and versatility. The proposed simulation
model has been authenticated in reference to the experimental
study and its parameters that serves as an interaction between
thermal, electrochemical and heat transfer criteria. The outcome demonstrates that, at a suitable pressure, the amount of H2 produced varies with the inlet temperature and it is also observed that at a minimum temperate of 50°C the amount of hydrogen obtained is 7.624 Nm3/h with 99.83% be the purity. Likewise, the increase in net power and H2 production at 0.6 A/cm2 of current density is reported to be 12.58% and 13.38%, respectively, at a maximum faraday efficiency of 98.23%.
