Co-gasification performance study of high ash Indian Coal and Rice husk blends in different proportion in Fluidised bed Gasifier

Due to rising concern of global warming and the greenhouse effect better techniques to utilise coal efficiently in a developing nation like India is of utmost importance. But to deal with the ever-increasing demand of the growing economy Clean Coal technologies(CCTs) like co-gasification are employed to meet with the demands in a more sustainable way and decrease the carbon footprint. Co-gasification is an efficient clean coal technology that uses blends (mixtures) of coal and biomass. In the present work, co-gasification experiments were carried out in fluidized bed gasifier using rice husk, which was blended with high ash Indian coal in different proportions of weight percentage (0% i.e. pure coal, 10%, 20% and 35% of Rice Husk was used). The gasification was carried out in a temperature range of 850 °C − 960 °C successfully without any operational issues. Carbon conversion efficiency (CCE), calorific value of product gas (CV), cold gas efficiency (CGE) and syngas generation per kg of feed was analysed for each case of the blend. It was observed that syngas generation per kg of feed, for all biomass blends, increase as the gasification temperature increases from 850 to 960°C. Also it was observed that CCE, CV and CGE increase with the increase in reactor temperature and biomass content of the mixture. But it was also observed that as the blending ratio increases the CO and H2 Composition decreases in case of blending of Rice husk.
