The proposed work consists of computational modelling and simulation of solar parabolic collectors using direct steam generation. The study is performed for climatic conditions of Mumbai. ANSYS Fluent 15.0 and SolTrace is used for CFD simulation and Monte Carlo Ray Tracing technique respectively used to get the required heat fluxes for direct steam generation. A layer of insulation is added on the upper half portion of absorber tube to reduce the heat loss due to convection and radiation. The results indicate that there is a significant increase in the efficiency of system and obtained outlet temperature. The excess amount of energy can be used for process heating (by product). The heat flux variation with time at different DNIs is plotted in this study and also grid sensitivity analysis is performed.
