Numerical analysis of mixed convective heat and mass transfer in a lid driven cavity with four different shapes of alumina nanoparticle doped in water/EG base fluid is discussed in this study. Mass, momentum equations are used using velocity-vorticity formulation of Navier Stokes equation and Galerkin's finite element method is employed to solve the velocity, vorticity, temperature and concentration in the flow domain. Four different shapes of alumina nanoparticles such as platelets, blades, cylinders and bricks at volume fraction of 1 to 4% are considered to observe the influence of shape of nanoparticle on convective heat and mass transport in presence of aiding and opposing thermosolutal buoyancy force (N= −5 and +5) for Ri=0.1 and Pr=6.2. Form the results it is found that at N= −5, the average value of Nu and Sh increases with χ for any shape of nanoparticle where platelet shows the maximum one in both the cases. However, at N=+5, blade shape nanoparticle shows 3% increment and platelets shows 4% decrease in mean Nusselt number whereas blade and platelet show the maximum and minimum performance in average Sherwood number of having 7.8% and 11% decrease respectively.
