要約

Today's buildings are air-conditioned and hence air tight. This does not allow the extraction of smoke naturally in case of fire. The smoke remains inside the building creating untenable conditions for the occupants. Smoke extraction using fans is required in such cases to defer the onset of untenable conditions. A case study of a hospital building namely Advanced Eye Centre (AEC) of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India has been undertaken to predict possible fire cases, which can take place in future. Strategy for effectual extraction of smoke is advanced using large eddy simulation approach in Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS). To predict fire spread and evacuation time, CFD tools namely Pyrosim and Pathfinder are used to simulate the spread of smoke with and without exhaust fans and human evacuation respectively in Advanced Eye Centre of PGMIER, Chandigarh in the event of fire. The simulations show that timely complete extraction of smoke from hospital building is not possible by natural ventilation and hence there is a need of artificial ventilation. Through the comparative analysis of the temperature, soot visibility, density and soot volume fraction, optimal location, size and capacity of fans required for evacuation of all occupants/patients were determined before the soot visibility / smoke temperature reaches a critical level. The fans increased the available time to egress from the building. The time to evacuate all the occupants was determined using steering model in Pathfinder.
