要約

Suppression of heat transfer across a thermal insulation is a major concern in thermal industries for thermal designers, especially those subjected to natural convection. The present study aims to suppress the natural convection heat transfer across a differentially heated porous medium. For this purpose, a conducting and infinitesimally thin square-wave partition is inserted within the porous enclosure and its effect is numerically studied. The square wave partition ensures obstruction in both vertical and horizontal direction, thereby increasing its effectiveness over straight vertical or straight horizontal partition which are commonly used. Since the primary concern is to assess the effect of square wave partition in porous media, the Darcy model is considered to describe flow within porous media and is numerically solved using Successive Accelerated Replacement scheme with overall II-order finite difference method. This numerical study is conducted for Darcy-modified Rayleigh number (Ra) 100-1000, Amplitude (A) 0 - 0.25. Aspect Ratio and inclination angle of porous enclosure are also varied to contemplate its effect. One of the finding of the present study is that the reduction in Nusselt number is always greater than 50% for any values of amplitude and partition ratio of the square wave partition.
