要約

The present research work focused on the machining of Aluminium reinforced with Silicon carbide metal matrix composite (Al-SiC MMC) machining by Electrical Discharge machining (EDM). SiC particle reinforced in Al matrix increases the mechanical properties of the composite which has a wide application in high temperature region of piston ring groove present in the combustion chamber of an automobile. These application has also a requirement of finished surface texture which is difficult to obtain in Conventional machining route. EDM is a Non-conventional machining process which can give better surface finish structure with good erosion rate. A Thermal modelling always helps to choose the appropriate set of process parameters which gives a good estimation of output parameters. In this study a 3D axi-symmetric work domain has been developed and analysed with the help of Finite Element Software. The computational domain has been confined by proper boundary condition. The material removal rate (MRR) has been predicted from the obtained temperature profile after single discharge simulation. The numerical model has been properly validated with the experimental results. The model shows a least error of 1.11% with the experimental results at (I-1A, V-50V, Ton-200µS and Fc-18%) conditions.
