要約

Study of convective field in liquid medium is of interest in many research fields. To understand the underlying flow physics and basic phenomenon, knowledge of both thermal and flow field is essential. This paper reports the development and application of Digital holography technique for whole field temperature and velocity measurements. The novelty of the technique developed lies in the fact that the same optical system, with slight changes in its configuration, can provide whole field information about temperature as well as velocity distributions. The potential of the developed system has been demonstrated by benchmarking the results of the classical problem of natural convection over a heated flat plate. As part of the benchmark study, the local distribution of heat transfer coefficients and the velocity profiles, as retrieved in the present work, have been compared respectively with the results of standard Ostrach correlation (for heat transfer coefficients) and the velocity profiles determined through the well-established 2D PIV measurements. Details of the optical configuration of the setup, the reconstruction algorithms and the benchmark studies have been discussed.
