Resumo

Due to growing needs in the context of clean energy, increasing rates of evaporation and condensation under ambient conditions has recently gained focus. In this regards, we report one of the simplest and cost-effective approach for modifying the surface properties through controlled deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles. The base material is copper, and the coating of TiO2 nanoparticles transforms the base surface into a superhydrophilic surface, causing enhanced rates of evaporation of working fluid even under ambient conditions. During the experiment concentration of TiO2 was varied and the performance of engineered surface was compared with the uncoated surface. Results indicate that, engineered surface performs better than the uncoated surface nearly ~26 times in terms of evaporation rate under similar operating conditions. The observed trends have been explained through SEM characterization of the engineered surfaces, which indicate high porosity and increased levels of roughness with increasing the concentration of TiO2 nanoparticles coating.
