Resumo

Under harsh operating and environmental circumstances, the temperature variation across the cell could have a profound effect on li-ion battery efficiency and lifespan. In this regard, indirect liquid cooling has been proven to be the most often utilised technology. However, heat transfer amplification is still required to reduce the peak temperature and temperature deviation of the module. As a result, the present research proposes and constructs an indirect liquid cooling system with a micro channel arrangement that mitigates the thermal nonlinearity prevailing in the module using a COMSOL Multiphysics software. In combination with the proposed cold plate design, the temperature fluctuations of a pouch battery module are explored for a variable mass flow rate and a discharge rate fixed at 3C. The current research shows that changing the mass flow rate from 0.001 to 0.005 kg s-1 results in a drop in average temperature of 3.04°C along with an enhancement in cooling performance factor.
