Resumo

Mini-channel heat exchangers are mainly responsible for cooling electronics in computers, servers, and high-end computing devices. In personal computers or laptops, it is generally forced cooled. However, water-cooled mini channels are also employed in high-end servers or computationally expensive machines. Due to their geometry, flow maldistribution occurs, creating a major problem for efficient thermal management. Recently air-water mixtures have been proposed for cooling instead of only water. This paper investigates the air-water mixture flow pattern in mini-channel geometry. The flow pattern is obtained for the three types of mini channels, I, Z, and C, for varying water and air inlet velocity. The numerical simulation is performed using VOF in fluent. Flow maldistribution is also presented in terms of the average velocity of each channel for all three mini channels. Mainly Plug, Slug and Bubbly flow pattern was seen in all the simulation cases for the velocity range of air (0.05 to 3.5 m/s) and water (0.05 to 0.4 m/s).
