Resumo

An experimental investigation was performed on three identical box-type solar cookers comprising of 1) with a fixed system (SCFS), 2) with single axis tracking (SCSAT), and 3) with dual axis tracking system (SCDAT) with an automated sun tracker for continual tracking. The setups were placed on the rooftop of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Patna so that the effect of shading was minimal. The duration selected for the experiments was between 10:00 AM and 03:00 PM. The reason for selecting this duration was due to the shading effect of a nearby building on one of the placed setups after 03:00 PM and before 10:00 AM. Moreover, the PIC18F4520 Microcontroller was used to control the movement of SCDAT from 10:00 AM to 03:00 PM. It was found from the observations that the rise in average temperature inside the chamber was 18.81% and 22.47% higher for SCSAT and SCDAT, respectively, compared to the SCFS on a typical sunny day in April.
