Resumo

Heat transfer analysis of the lumped body in a single pool fire (SPF) and double pool fire (DPF) are analysed. In the case of an SPF, a lumped body is engulfed in the fire with a thermocouple attached. In the case of DPF, the lumped body is only engulfed in the first fire, and the second fire is allowed to burn without any disturbance. In this study, a comparison is made between SPF and DPF. In DPF, there will be an additional radiation contribution from the second fire onto the body engulfed in the first fire. There will be an increase in the temperature of the lumped body because of the additional radiation coming from the second fire. These experiments are done for a 0.1 m diameter gasoline pool fire with different separation distances between pans from 0 cm to 10 cm with an increment of 2.5 cm. Brass Lumped body with three cylindrical geometries with height-to-diameter ratios of 1, 1.5, and 2 are analysed. Heat flux to the lumped body, such as radiation, convection, net heat flux, and radiative losses, are analysed. The Adiabatic surface temperature for all the experiments is calculated at steady state. It is observed from the experiments that there is a significant increase in the temperature of the lumped body for DPF with a separation distance of 0 m with 50 to 60 K when compared to SPF. As the separation distance increases, the effect of the second pool fire on the lumped body declines, as can be observed from temperature data, and DPF behaves similarly to SPF at a separation distance of 10 cm.
