Resumo

In this work, an exhaustive numerical study have been presented in two-dimensional, steady, incompressible, laminar mixed convection with surface radiation in a ventilated cavity having uniform heat generating source on the exhaust side. Air is a working fluid and also a radiatively transparent medium. Navier-stokes and energy equations are solved using finite-volume based finite difference method with Boussinesq approximation. For surface radiation calculation, radiosity-irradiation method is used, while the view factor required therein are determined using the Hottel's crossed-string method. The simulation is carried out for a wide range of Reynolds number (Re = 100-5000) and corresponding Richardson number (Ri = 0.21-529.73). Results are presented in the form of streamlines, isotherms, and maximum temperature, vertical velocity at the midheight of cavity. Effect of thermal radiation on convective, radiative and total Nusselt number is shown for different value of surface emissivity (ε = 0.0-1.0).
