Resumo

Thermal contact conductance (TCC) at the interface of two nominally flat surfaces is studied using inverse heat conduction analysis based on transient heat flow. Near-surface temperatures along the lateral surface of cylindrical stainless steel specimens with different surface roughness values (0.9 - 6.9 µm) were measured for a range of contact pressures varying from 0.9 MPa to 1.7 MPa and used as input for the estimation of surface temperatures at the contacts and the heat flux across the gap. The analysis was carried out by finite element method. The resulting temperature profile very near the contact on either side suggests a gradual change in temperature as against a linear distribution reported in the literature. Based on the results of the numerical analysis, the effects of surface roughness and interface pressure on thermal contact conductance is studied.
