Resumo

As adsorption is an exothermic process, the performance of an adsorbed natural gas (ANG) storage system is solely controlled by the heat and mass transfer characteristics of the reactor. In the subject work, heat and mass transfer characteristics of an ANG storage system for constant pressure charging condition is studied in more generalised form. A one-dimensional transient heat and mass transfer model is formulated considering suitable reactor kinetics. All the governing differential equations and boundary conditions describing heat and mass transfer in ANG bed are non-dimensionalised, using first principle. Physically significant non-dimensional numbers such as generation number, Biot number, rate constant parameter and γ etc are identified. The ranges of different non-dimensional groups are established by varying different material and design related parameters over wide range. The influence of the different non-dimensional groups on the performance of the ANG system is investigated. The study clearly indicates that an ANG rector with low generation no and β2 and high value of Biot no, β1, τ and γ provides better performance in terms of high storage capacity, and low total heat transfer and faster adsorption
