3D CFD Investigation on Trimmed Annular Fins in Crossflow Heat Exchanger
Аннотация
Numerical analysis was carried out for the flow of air over
an array of annular finned tubes. The downstream part of the fin was trimmed in an angular manner to reduce the material
requirements. Study was done on the impact of fin spacing and
Reynolds number on the thermal and flow properties. The Reynolds stresses terms were modelled using transition SST
turbulence model. Results indicate a surge in pressure drop at
lower fin spacing. Also, the Nusselt number was the highest at
minimum fin spacing. The use of a trimmed fin provided a
material savings of nearly 16.6% than the standard case of a complete circular finned tube.
