Аннотация

The analysis of temperature variation in the channel under postulated large break LOCA scenario is important from the point of view of the fission product release from the fuel and hydrogen generation. In this paper, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of a fuel channel under an impaired cooling condition for an Indian PHWR has been developed. The fuel bundle of 37-fuel pins configuration is used. The analysis has been performed for two different geometrical configurations of the PT w.r.t CT. In the first case, PT is concentric to CT while in second case, PT is in line contact with the CT (sagging deformation). The steady-state temperature profile in each component of the channel comprising of fuel pins, PT and CT for both the cases is predicted. It is found that the temperature of the fuel bundle, PT and CT is highly influenced by the contact of PT with CT. The maximum and minimum temperature is obtained respectively at the top and bottom nodes of the PT. A similar trend is seen in the fuel pins of the outer rings. However, an opposite trend is observed in the CT. For the case-1, no such circumferential temperature variation is observed. The CFD model has also been validated against the experimental data. The numerical results showed a good agreement with the experimental results.
