摘要

Providing thermal comfort is an important requirement for any inhabited building. Thermal comfort is usually achieved through air conditioning. The number of air-conditioned buildings has been increasing with the worsening of climatic conditions. As a consequence, the building energy consumption is growing at an alarming rate. Hence there is a dire need of optimizing building energy consumption without compromising thermal comfort. Personalized or occupant centric air conditioning and ventilation may help achieve this goal. In the present work, a simple model is developed to assess the benefits of Personalized air conditioning and Ventilation (PV) system for a typical office building. A conventional air conditioning system is taken as reference for comparison. The number of occupants and ventilation rates are taken as variables for both conventional and PV systems. Depending upon the arrangement of the cooling coil(s), three cases (case 1, 2 and 3) are identified and analysed. Based on simple calculations it is seen that the PV system can reduce the energy consumption by as much as 10 to 15 %.
