摘要

Outdoor air for ventilation is a major load component of air conditioned buildings with high occupancy, e.g. classrooms. Hence effective handling of outdoor air is important in reducing the energy consumption of these buildings. Use of energy recovery methods such as sensible or total heat recovery systems can reduce the ventilation load. In addition, effective handling of latent load during monsoon is also essential for energy efficiency. Desiccant systems can be used in place of reheat coils for effective management of humidity under high latent load conditions. The present study discusses the performance analysis of a centrally air conditioned classroom complex that consists of an enthalpy wheel for energy recovery and a desiccant wheel for humidity control. The results show that compared to standard system, the air conditioning system with enthalpy and desiccant wheels can reduce the load on the cooling coil by as much as 33% in summer and 40% for the monsoon season.
