摘要

Gasification offers a promising way of converting solid biomass fuel into a mixture of combustible gases, often called as the syngas, through a series of thermo-chemical reactions. Among different gasifiers, fluidized bed (FB) offers several advantages, such as excellent heat/mass transfer characteristics, fuel flexibility, etc., over other gasification methods. In this paper, a numerical solver is developed after incorporating chemical kinetics models within the existing multiphase particle-in-cell (MPPIC) solver within OpenFOAM. Subsequently, the solver is validated by simulating biomass gasification process in a bubbling FB. In the MPPIC method, the gas-phase governing equations are formulated in the Eulerian framework, whereas groups of solid particles, also known as computational parcels, are tracked within the Lagrangian framework following the stochastic particle method. The product gas composition at the gasifier outlet is compared with the experimental values at a fixed gasifier temperature and steam-to-biomass ratio. The time-averaged syngas composition at the reactor outlet including primarily carbon di oxide, carbon mono oxide and hydrogen showed a good agreement to the experimental data.
