Investigation on the heat transfer performance of BeO-water nanofluid in an electronic cooling system
摘要
In this work, the heat transfer performance of BeO nanofluid was investigated in a simulated electronic cooling system. A maximum thermal conductivity enhancement of 55% was obtained for 3 vol.% nanofluid at 28 °C. Cooling studies were performed by analysing the effect of nanofluid concentrations (0.25 − 2 vol.%) and flow rates (5 − 10 ml/sec) on the system core temperature, convective heat transfer coefficient, and pressure drop. A maximum increase in the convective heat transfer coefficient of 40% was obtained by 2 vol.% BeO nanofluid at a flow rate of 10 ml/sec with a 15 °C decrease in core temperature compared to cooling using water. An average increase in the pressure drop of 5% was observed by using BeO nanofluid compared to water. The observed results show that the BeO nanofluids with improved thermal properties should be a suitable alternative for conventional coolants, which can be used as an efficient heat transfer fluid in low working volume thermal management applications.
