摘要

In this paper, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique is employed to understand and quantify the viscous dissipation during mixing of highly viscous solid propellant in a vertical mixer. A detailed CFD analysis is required to understand the physics behind the complex mixing of solid propellant, which in turn aids in controlling the mixing environment. An extensive two-dimensional thermal analysis is carried out using dynamic mesh technique in OpenFOAM and the effect of angular velocity, and viscosity over temperature rise is quantified. Viscous dissipation terms are included in energy equation solver to quantify the temperature rise of mixing fluid due to shearing action while mixing. Maximum velocity was observed at the tip of the blade profile using CFD simulations, which results in a maximum temperature rise around the periphery of the blade. A correlation between time and temperature is proposed to predict the temperature rise within the given range of angular velocity.
