摘要

Flow distribution in minichannel heat sink is highly affected by the flow arrangements. Flow arrangements can be of different types such as I-Type, Z-Type, and C-Type. The present study is focused to mitigate hot spot in minichannel heat sink by introducing a proposed geometry which has a combination of two hydraulic diameters of the parallel mini-channels. There are 10 mini-channels with a hydraulic diameter of 1.5 mm and 36 mini-channels with a hydraulic diameter of 0.857 mm in proposed geometry. The performance of the heat sink with this proposed geometry is compared with the conventional geometry which has 28 parallel mini-channels with 1.5 mm hydraulic diameter each. Distinct inlet-outlet arrangements namely I-type, C-type and Z- type are used to compare the results. A significant drop in the maximum base temperature is obtained for the proposed geometry when compared to the conventional one under similar working conditions. The value of thermal resistance is also found lower for the proposed geometry as compared to the conventional geometry for the same flow rate in all the flow configurations. The percentage drop is as high as 32.4% in Z- type configuration for a flow rate of 1 LPM.
