摘要

The development of nanotechnology resulted in the usage of nanofluids for heat transfer enhancement applications. Suspended nanoparticles are used to enhance the heat transfer characteristics of the base fluid. In the present work, a three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) investigation is carried out using single-phase modelling approach. Turbulent flow of water-based Al2O3 nanofluid in a horizontal tube with full and partial circular corrugation is simulated. Validation of the model is done by comparing the thermo-hydraulic performance of a plain circular tube, taking water and water-based Al2O3 nanofluid as heat transfer fluids. Numerical values of Nusselt number (Nu) and friction factor (ƒ) showed good agreement with the correlated data with an average error between 3.97% to 7.85%, which validates the simulation results. Effect of Reynolds number varying from 6000 to 12000 with 2% volume concentration of Al2O3 and particle diameter of 25nm is investigated on the heat transfer and flow characteristics and comparative analysis is conducted for different corrugations. Results reveal that heat transfer performance is improved at the cost of pressure drop when corrugated tube is used with nanofluid as a working fluid. Fully corrugated tube and partially staggered corrugated tube with nanofluid as a working fluid founds to give 61.99% and 41.33% better performance in terms of heat transfer in comparison to plain tube with water as a working fluid, respectively.
