In this paper experiments were conducted to study the effect of intermittent condensate film on the condensation heat transfer performance of superhydrophilic vertical square aluminium tube. Intermittent condensate films are formed on the superhydrophilic aluminium surface using superhydrophobic silicon inserts. Experiments were conducted with 1-4 identical silicon wafer inserts for a wide range of subcooling (5°C≤ Δ Τ≤40°C). The study reveal that the presence of three silicon wafer inserts resulted in augmentation of heat transfer 21.7%. However the presence of fourth insert resulted in degradation of heat transfer
