摘要

Solar air heaters hold a significant position among the solar heat collector, especially for low and medium temperature applications. The unique features of solar air heater is its simple design and low conversion cost. Impinging air jets can be employed to enhance the thermal performance of solar air heaters. In the present work, an effort has been made to conduct experimental investigations on solar air heater with jet impingement. The performance of the collector is investigated under varying flow situations by taking air flow rates ranging from 0.004 to 0.008 kg/s by using the nozzle of diameter 5 mm. A total of 16 jets employed for the present study. The investigations were carried out by constructing a rectangular channel consisting a flat plate and one top glass cover as the solar air heater with the dimensions 0.75m width × 0.95 m length × 0.15 m depth. The performance is analysed on the basis of average value of Nusselt Number. The percentage rise in average Nusselt Number of collector with jet impingement was observed to be 20% for an air flow rate of 0.004kg/s when compared with conventional upward solar collector.
