摘要

A numerical model to capture the melting and subsequent solidification at micro-scale during laser melting of binary alloy matrix nanocomposites is developed. The enthalpy method is used to develop the model. The nanoparticles are treated similar to an alloying element and a volume averaged concentration is used to specify the distribution of nanoparticles. The diffusion driven movement of nanoparticles is formulated using the Stokes-Einstein equation. The low wettability of the nanoparticles is incorporated in the model by defining a parameter called nanoparticle partition coefficient. The effect of nanoparticles on solidification is also incorporated in the model. The laser power input is modelled as a heat input term. The liquid fraction evolution, solute distribution, nanoparticle distribution and final microstructure during the laser melting process are captured. The effect of initial nanoparticle concentration on final nanoparticle distribution and liquid fraction evolution is studied. It is observed that the nanoparticle accumulation between the grain boundaries increases with increase in initial nanoparticle concentration.
