摘要

The aim of this paper is to reduce aerodynamic drag of an intercity bus in order to achieve lower fuel consumption and to keep the vehicle stable on a highway through drag reduction technique. In general, the external body shape of a long-distance, high-speed bus manufactured around the world is in a rectangular shaped blunt body, which creates more drag and also the process of an optimum shape of the bus with the minimum aerodynamic drag is a challenging task. In this paper, the dimples are introduced in the front and rear surfaces of the bus for the purpose of reducing the drag over the bus, in turn less fuel consumption. The importance of a redesign is to reduce the total aerodynamic drag on an intercity bus, which comprised of around 70% in pressure drag and on rear-side, which affects 30% in induced drag by vortex. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method is incorporated to analyze the variation of aerodynamic effect on the bus with the change of bus design configuration. This paper also discusses the numerical simulation of the air behaviour around the bus with and without dimples. The design of a bus has been modeled by CATIA V5 and numerical simulation has been carried out with the help of ANSYS Workbench 16.2.
