摘要

In this paper, the development and performance investigation of a mixed mode solar dryer consisting of double pass counter flow solar collector integrated with thermal energy storage (TES) system is presented. The system consists of a counter flow double pass solar air heater, shell and tube type TES system and a mixed mode solar dryer. The maximum thermal and exergy efficiencies of the collector were found to be 46.5% and 2.67%, respectively. Later, the solar collector was integrated with a mixed mode solar dryer for studying the drying characteristics of sliced turmeric. It was found that the initial moisture content of 73.45% (w.b) was reduced to the final moisture content of 8.5% (w.b) within 18 hr in the newly developed solar dryer while, the open sun drying took about 38 hr. By employing the developed solar collector, 53% of time has been saved for drying 10 kg of sliced turmeric. The overall efficiency of the dryer was found to be 15.1%.
