Abstract

A unique and precise experimental facility is designed and developed to characterise the interfacial heat transfer under high temperature. Steady-state experiments have been performed to evaluate the TCC in stainless steel (SS) contact under both ambient as well as vacuum operating condition (0.04 Pa). The difference in gas/gap conductance and spot conductance is reported under the interface temperature of 300 °C and varying contact pressure (1.7-7.7 MPa). The interfacial interactions for two geometrically identical cylinder arrangements have been studied under steady-state which are in contact at their flat surface and are subjected to axial force. Thermocouple as well as Infrared thermography technique, is employed for temperature measurements for better accuracy and thermal visualisation. The investigation demonstrates the trend of thermal contact conductance obtained over a limited range of parameter.
