Abstract

There are several engineering devices where simultaneous squeezing and extrusion of viscoelastic fluids take place. Thermodynamic analysis of these phenomena are important from the context of designing of these devices as these involve generation of several irreversibilities. In the present theoretical investigation, we extensively analyse the entropy generation characteristics of such devices through Oldroyd-B model. We represent the combined effects of fluid rheology, and squeezing-extrusion mechanism on the entropy generation characteristics. The thermodynamics performances of these engineering devices with applications having simultaneous squeezing and extrusion of viscoelastic fluid can be enhanced through process parameter optimization using our study.
